| In our worship services we strive to show our
love for God through obedience to His word. As
human beings our love for God is shown by our
obedience to His commandments (John
14:15,
23). Jesus declared to the Samaritan woman
He met at Jacob's well that "God is a Spirit, and
they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and
in truth." (John
4:24) To the Scribes and Pharisees who
asked Him about His disciples and their
transgression of the tradition of the elders, He
said, "But in vain do they worship me, teaching for
doctrine the commandments of men." (Matthew
15:1-9) Our worship services are directed
by the instructions we find in the New Testament.
When you visit with us you will find us observing
the following five acts of worship each Lord's day: |
Prayer:
During the worship service several of the men will lead the congregation in
public prayer (Acts
2:42).
Singing:
We will sing several songs and hymns together, led by one or more song
leaders. These will be sung a capella (without musical
instruments).
We sing in this manner because it follows the pattern of the early church.
Singing is the only type of music authorized in the New Testament for the
worship of the church (Ephesians
5:19).
The
Lord's Supper: Following the pattern of the early church (Acts
20:7),
we partake of the Lord's Supper each Sunday. In partaking of the Lord's
Supper we remember the Lord's death until He comes again (1 Corinthians
11:23-26).
Giving:
Each week we give to the work of the church (1 Corinthians
16:2). God has
richly blessed us. We have many good works that the church supports.
These works require financial support. Please note: If you are
visiting with us, please do not feel obligated to give when the collection plate
is passed. We take a collection only on Sunday, and the obligation to give
is limited to the members.
Bible
study: We engage in regular Bible study through preaching, Bible
reading, and direct teaching (2 Timothy
4:1,2). In addition, the elders
have set aside time on Sunday morning and Wednesday evenings for Bible
study. We have classes for all ages.
At
the close of the sermon there will be an invitation offered to those present who
wish to respond by becoming Christians, being restored to fellowship, or seek
the prayers of the church.
